Promi vs. Monarch

Same accounts. Longer horizon.

Monarch and Promi both connect your banks and categorize as money moves. The difference shows up when you ask what the next thirty years look like.

Where they overlap

Monarch and Promi are built on the same foundation: Plaid bank connections, automatic transaction categorization, budgets that update as money moves, and per-holding investment tracking. Both are household tools, so two people share one subscription and one set of accounts.

If what you want is a well-built budgeting and net worth app, Monarch does that well, and this page is not going to argue otherwise. The case for Promi starts somewhere else.

What Promi adds

Promi includes Monte Carlo retirement simulation at 1,000 runs per projection, with a historical recession backtest alongside it. It models tax-aware drawdown, Roth conversion ladders and 72(t) early withdrawals, and it tracks five FIRE variants (Lean, Coast, Barista, Fat and traditional) against live account balances rather than a saved snapshot.

It also brings in context from outside your own data. Peer cohort benchmarks are drawn from Federal Reserve and Census sources, and budget targets arrive pre-filled from Bureau of Labor Statistics spending surveys scaled to your metro.

On Monarch, side-by-side scenarios and multi-source retirement income are part of the Plus tier.

What it costs

Promi is $13.99 a month, or $139.99 a year, which works out to $11.67 a month. Monarch's base tier is $99.99 a year.

The stack people usually price against: Monarch plus a dedicated retirement planner such as ProjectionLab ($129.00 a year) comes to $228.99 a year, across two subscriptions and two logins.

Monarch's $199 Plus tier adds scenario forecasting, which is the same job the retirement planner is in the stack for. Monte Carlo simulation, historical backtesting, FIRE variants and tax-aware drawdown sit outside it, so it is not counted as a substitute above.
