Question 1

My bank connection keeps failing. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

Sign in on your bank’s own website first, to confirm the credentials still work and no security prompt is waiting for you there. A pending verification step at the bank is the most common cause, and nothing on our side can clear it. Then reconnect from Settings → Connections & Data → Connected Accounts. If it still fails, email support@promifinance.com with the bank name and we will look at the error the connection is actually returning.

Why does a bank connection sometimes need reconnecting?

Banks revoke access on their own schedule, and a password change, a new security question, or an expired consent screen all end a connection. Promi watches each feed for silence and flags one that has stopped delivering, so you get a notice instead of a quietly stale balance. Click Reconnect in Settings → Connections & Data → Connected Accounts and sign in again. No history is lost.

Question 3

Can I connect credit cards and investment accounts?

Accepted Answer

Yes: checking, savings, credit cards, loans, 401(k)s, IRAs, and brokerage accounts all connect through the same flow. Search for the institution and Promi sorts the accounts it finds into the right categories.

How do I import a CSV?

Accepted Answer

Open Add Account → Import from CSV. It takes either transaction history or balance history, and it shows you a parsed preview before anything is saved. For transactions, the export usually sits behind a statements screen at your bank: Chase under Statements → Download → CSV, Amex under Statements & Activity → Download, Fidelity under Activity & Orders → Download. Elsewhere, look for Export or Download CSV. For balance history, the file needs a Date column and a Balance column, one row per date you have a balance for. Any common date format works.

How do I change a transaction’s category?

Open the transaction from the Transactions list and pick a different category in the detail panel. It saves immediately, and everything built on categories (budget, spending breakdown, the flow chart) reads the new one. Your pick is stored as an override rather than as another opinion, so automatic categorization does not revisit it later. A category you set by hand stays set.

Does fixing one transaction fix the rest from that merchant?

Accepted Answer

Eventually, and without overwriting anything you chose yourself. Saving a category flags your household’s other transactions from the same merchant for another look, and the next categorization pass works through them. Two things it deliberately does not do. It skips any transaction you have already categorized by hand, so one correction cannot undo another. And it stays inside your household: nothing you change moves anyone else’s categories.

Can I mark a transaction as one person’s?

Yes. The transaction detail panel has an Owner field listing the people on your household profile, plus Joint. A transaction belongs to one person or to the household, and is never split between them. Splitting is for account balances, not for individual charges.

How do I set or change a budget amount?

Accepted Answer

On the Budget page, click the amount beside a category and type a new one. Enter saves it, Escape cancels. The Monthly / Annual toggle changes which figure you are typing into, not the budget underneath it, so switching views cannot quietly multiply or divide what you set.

Where do the starting amounts come from?

Accepted Answer

A category you have never set carries a Guide amount, drawn from your household profile, your own transaction history, and national benchmarks. The Guide button in the toolbar shows and hides that column. It is a reference point, not a target Promi thinks you should hit. As soon as you type your own figure, that category is yours and the Guide stops standing in for it. That holds at $0 too: a category you deliberately zeroed stays at zero instead of being refilled next month.

What are sub-budgets?

A category can carry finer lines beneath it, like Fuel & Charging under Transportation. Where sub-budgets exist, the category’s effective budget is the larger of its own figure and the sum of the lines under it. Adding detail underneath can never silently shrink the parent.

What does the Forecast view show?

Accepted Answer

The Budget / Forecast toggle switches the table from what you budgeted to where the month looks likely to land. The projection combines what you have actually spent so far with how your own prior months ran day by day. It is not this month’s spending divided by the days elapsed, which is why rent landing on the 1st does not project a catastrophic month on the 2nd.

What do the percentiles mean?

25th percentile: three quarters of the modeled cohort sits above this number. 50th: the middle, half above and half below. 75th: three quarters sits below it. They describe the cohort, not a target. Promi does not treat any of them as the number you ought to hit.

Can I change my cohort?

Accepted Answer

It updates on its own when your income or household details change. Those live in Settings → Household → Household Profile, and editing them there rebuilds the comparison.

How do I create an account?

Click Get Started, enter your email, and pick a password. Promi then walks you through connecting a first account and a short household questionnaire, which is what the budget suggestions and peer comparison are built from. It takes a couple of minutes. To look around first, the interactive demo is a full populated account with no signup.

How do I mark an account as one person’s?

Accepted Answer

Open the account from the Accounts page and set the Owner field to a household member, or leave it Joint. Per-person net worth, retirement, and investment views weight balances from that field. An account left Joint counts half to each of you, so the two per-person views always add back up to the household.

Can I turn off emails and insight panels?

Accepted Answer

Most of them. Settings → Account → Notifications has separate switches for money alerts, account health, and progress and insights, plus the dollar figure that counts as a large transaction. Billing and security messages stay on, because they cover your access and what you are charged. The in-app panels have their own switches in Settings → Household → Preferences, including the insights banner, tooltips, the weekly digest, and how much explanation you want alongside the numbers.

How do I delete my account?

Accepted Answer

Settings → Account → Delete Account. It is permanent and it is not a support ticket: your account, profile, and financial data leave our live systems right away, and your bank connections are removed from Plaid. Export first from Settings → Connections & Data → Data Management if you want a copy.
