How does peer comparison work without sharing my data?

Your data is never shared with other users, and nothing you connect is ever shown to anyone else. Peer bands are modeled, not sampled from real neighbors: we build a statistical profile of households with your age, income range, household size, and region, drawn from publicly available data sources including the Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances and US Census Bureau. You then see where you fall against the 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles of that profile. Treat the bands as estimates rather than exact survey figures.

What makes the GUIDE budget different from a regular budget?

Traditional budgets start empty and require you to guess amounts. GUIDE pre-fills every category with suggested amounts based on your household profile, location, and income level, so you are editing a starting point rather than inventing one. Every projection is an estimate built on your inputs and on past market behavior, which does not guarantee future results.

Yes. Promi connects to 12,000+ institutions through Plaid, including Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard, and Robinhood. We pull individual holdings with ticker symbols, cost basis, and gain/loss, then aggregate everything into one portfolio view: allocation across every holding you own, per-account and household totals, and performance measured against the S&P 500, Nasdaq, and Dow.

Can I use Promi without connecting a bank?

Yes. Alongside Plaid, Add Account offers three manual routes: Property searches an address and estimates the value, Manual Account covers crypto, a vehicle, or anything else off-grid with a balance you update yourself, and Import from CSV takes transaction or balance history from a file. Net worth, allocation, and history treat manual accounts the same as connected ones. What you give up is the part that maintains itself.

How is Promi different from Monarch, YNAB, or a spreadsheet?

If budgets and account tracking are all you need, Monarch and YNAB do that well and cost less. Promi is built for what comes after: Monte Carlo retirement projections, tax-aware drawdown, Roth conversion analysis, and peer benchmarks, which is usually the point where a second subscription gets added. Is there a mobile app?

Promi runs in any browser, and there is an iPhone and iPad app on the App Store. Android is in testing and not publicly listed yet. It is one account and one subscription across all of them, so anything you do on your phone is there on the web a moment later.

How do I connect my bank?

Accepted Answer

Go to Settings → Connections & Data → Connected Accounts and click Add Connection, or use Add Account on the Accounts page. Search for your bank, then sign in with your online banking credentials. Plaid handles that sign-in. We never see your password.

How long does it take for transactions to sync?

The first sync takes 1 to 5 minutes and pulls up to two years of history. After that, new transactions arrive within 24 hours, and sooner when your bank pushes an update.

Why is a transaction missing?

Accepted Answer

Most often it is still pending. Some institutions, Fidelity, USAA, and Capital One among them, never send pending transactions to any aggregator, so a charge there appears only once it posts, typically one to three days later. If something has posted at your bank and still is not in Promi a day later, check Settings → Connections & Data → Connected Accounts for a connection asking to be reconnected. Promi watches each feed for silence and flags one that has stopped delivering, so a dead connection shows up rather than sitting quiet. Question 12

My bank is not in the list. What now?

Search the exact name your bank uses on its own website first, since many institutions are listed under a parent brand or a separate name for their card or brokerage arm. If it genuinely is not there, the account can still live in Promi as a Manual Account, or through Import from CSV if your bank exports history. Email support@promifinance.com with the name and we will check whether Plaid carries it under a different listing.

Does connecting my accounts affect my credit score?

Accepted Answer

No. Connecting through Plaid reads data you already have access to. It is not a credit application, it creates no hard or soft inquiry, and nothing you do in Promi is reported to a credit bureau. Promi is not a consumer reporting agency.

Question 14

Can my spouse or partner use the same account?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and one subscription covers the household. Invite them from Settings → Account → Profile. They get their own login and password, and the same household view. Each account can be marked as one person’s or shared, so per-person net worth, retirement, and investment views split the way your household actually works.

Is there a free trial?

Yep. 7 days of full access, every feature, and no card to start. When the trial ends you pick Monthly or Annual to keep going, or you walk away and nothing is charged. Lifetime is a one-time purchase rather than a subscription. You can buy it during the trial or after.

What happens when the trial is up?

Your account pauses until you pick a plan: syncing, insights and benchmarks stop. Your bank connections stay linked for 7 days and your data is kept for 90 days after the trial ends; pick a plan in that time and everything resumes where it left off. After 90 days the financial data is deleted, while your sign-in and settings stay so you can start again. If you chose a plan during the trial, your card is first charged when the trial ends, and cancelling before then charges nothing. Cancelling later stops the next renewal and leaves you with access through the period you already paid for.

No. Connect 3 accounts or 30, the price is the same. Having a full financial life is not something you should pay a surcharge for.

Can I switch between monthly and annual?

Whenever you want, from Settings → Billing → Your Plan. Stripe prorates the difference automatically, so switching mid-period neither charges you twice nor loses the time you already paid for.

There is a 30-day money-back guarantee on new Monthly, Annual, and Lifetime purchases, on top of the free trial. After that window, cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access through the period you already paid for. Partial periods are not prorated. Full terms are in the Terms of Service.

How do I cancel?

Go to Settings → Billing → Your Plan and click Cancel Subscription. Access continues to the end of the period you paid for. If you subscribed inside the iPhone or iPad app, Apple handles the billing, so cancel from iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions instead.

I subscribed on my iPhone. Where does billing live?

With Apple. App Store rules mean an in-app subscription is charged by Apple, appears on your Apple receipt, and is cancelled or changed in your Apple subscription settings rather than in Promi. On a new device, Settings → Billing → Your Plan has a Restore Purchase option that finds an existing subscription on your Apple ID. Subscribing on the web instead puts billing with Stripe, where Promi can manage it directly.

Is my data secure?

All connections go through Plaid, the same provider behind Venmo, Robinhood, and Coinbase. We never see or store your bank login credentials. Your data is encrypted at rest and in transit. The security page has the specifics.

Can Promi move my money or make transactions?

Accepted Answer

No. Promi has read-only access through Plaid. We can see transactions and balances, and we cannot initiate a transfer, make a purchase, or change an account setting. Ever.

Do you sell my data?

Accepted Answer

Never. No ads, no affiliate links, no third-party tracking. Subscriptions are the whole business model, which is what keeps your financial data from becoming the product.

Is my financial data used to train AI models?

Accepted Answer

No. Promi’s AI features run on Anthropic’s Claude, and under our agreement the data sent is not used to train their models. A feature sends what it needs to answer the question in front of it, not your whole account. What each vendor receives is listed in the privacy policy.

Do you support two-factor authentication?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Settings → Account → Security turns on two-factor with any authenticator app, 1Password, Authy, and Google Authenticator included. After that, a sign-in from a new session asks for a code.

Can I export or delete my data?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and you do not have to ask us. Settings → Connections & Data → Data Management downloads everything we hold as a single file, and Settings → Account → Delete Account removes your account without a support ticket. Deleting takes your account, profile, and financial data out of our live systems right away, removes your bank connections from Plaid, and expires the encrypted backups holding copies within 30 days. If you would rather we handle it, email privacy@promifinance.com. We comply with the CCPA and GDPR.

What happens to my data if Promi shuts down?

Your export does not depend on us being around to approve it: Settings → Connections & Data → Data Management hands you the whole account as a file whenever you want it, in formats other tools can read. On the underlying worry, free finance apps are the ones that tend to disappear, because someone else is paying for them. Promi charges for the product.

No, and that is deliberate. Promi shows you what your money is doing and explains what the numbers mean. It does not tell you what to do with them. You will see benchmarks, tradeoffs, and observations, and never an instruction about a financial decision. Promi is not a registered investment advisor and does not provide personalized financial advice.

No. Promi never holds your money and cannot move it. It is a read-only view of accounts you hold elsewhere. We are not a bank, a broker, a lender, or a consumer reporting agency.

Do you support households outside the US?

Not yet. Bank connections, tax brackets, Social Security, state tax treatment, and the local comparison data all assume a US financial life, so the numbers would be wrong rather than merely unavailable elsewhere.
