Transaction Velocity

How frequently you transact, measured separately from how much you spend.

Velocity counts transactions per day. It is deliberately independent of amount, so a $4 purchase and a $400 one weigh the same.

Two households can reach an identical monthly total through very different patterns: one through many small daily purchases, another through a few large weekly ones. The totals match while the composition does not, and composition is what determines how much of the spending was decided in advance.

The reason to track it separately is that small recurring amounts are hard to estimate by recall. A $4 purchase repeated on most days reaches $120 in a month without ever presenting itself as a $120 decision.
