Reading patterns, exporting, reviewing a month

Spending Insights

The transaction list and the calendar heatmap show the same spending two ways: as individual charges, and as a shape across the month. Some patterns are only visible in the second.

Patterns that commonly appear once a month is laid out by day:

Shapes worth recognising

  • Weekend concentration. Discretionary spending clusters on days off for most households, which makes a weekend-heavy month look different from a weekday-heavy one at the same total.
  • Pay-cycle correlation. Spending that rises just after income arrives, then tapers.
  • Recurring charges, which land on the same date each month and form a visible column.
  • Same-day clusters. Several small purchases in one day, which sum to more than any of them suggests individually.

The Spending lens on the heatmap shades by daily total, so the darkest cells are the largest days. That is a different question from which merchants recur, and the two views answer it separately.
